On macOS, download the MXterm Pro .dmg, open it, and drag MXterm Pro to your Applications folder, then launch it from Applications. On Windows 10 or 11 (x64), run the .exe. SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC” the first time you run it because the installer is not code-signed yet: click More info, then Run anyway.

macOS Gatekeeper

MXterm Pro is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple. If macOS asks you to confirm, click Open. Only if it blocks the app instead, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

SSH host and Control Room limits

Free has no pane limit. By default Free includes 5 saved SSH host profiles, 2 members per Control Room (formerly War Room) with one room having members at a time, 1 saved Machine and, for remote control, 1 other paired computer and 5 shared panes at once (the MXterm phone app and browsers are not counted). Pro removes these limits and adds My Devices (open your other signed-in Macs with no code or password) and a Standing (non-expiring) access password. SFTP file transfers work on both plans. The access password for pairing devices (minimum 6 characters) is a Temporary one of up to 8 hours on Free; Pro allows Temporary passwords of up to 7 days.

SSH & SFTP not connecting

Double-check the host, port, and auth method in the SSH manager. For key-based auth, confirm the private key path is readable by MXterm Pro. For a password host, type the password in the terminal when ssh asks for it: a saved password is not filled in for you, and the SFTP file panel starts working once that terminal has logged in.

Command Recipes (Cmd+J)

Press Cmd+J (Ctrl+J on Windows) to open Command Recipes, or click the round button in the corner of an SSH tab. Type what you need, such as finding large files or checking open ports, and MXterm Pro matches it against a built-in set of ready-made Linux commands. No AI model runs. Running a recipe types the command into the focused pane and presses Enter, so read it first. Available on both Free and Pro.
